Upholstered Furniture Stain Removal

I often have some strange things to clean up after. And it’s not very often that something comes up that I haven’t seen before. From assorted animals, food and drink spills, nothing really surprises me anymore. So having to clean a couple of tub chairs with some interesting marks on them was really not out of the ordinary. But these marks were a little different to the normal spots and stains I have to clean up. A possum had entered a house through the fireplace and proceeded to run around the lounge room, marking the furniture in the process. The stains were on two tub chairs in a pink dyed cotton material. The stains were able to be removed successfully. There are a few factors that help with a good result. The material was firstly in good condition. The chairs were cleaned in a timely manner, within a few days of being damaged. And finally the stains were only superficial and able to be removed reasonable easily.

 

 

Removing stains from upholstered furniture.

For the most part, when customers attempt to remove stains from soft coverings, this will be undertaken in a similar way to attending to stains on carpet. General stain removal techniques including not over-wetting the material, starting from the outside working towards the middle and taking your time will all help. Man-made fibers are normally the easiest for removing stains. This is due to not being as absorbent as natural fibers such as Wool or Cotton. Often, removing stains from Cotton fibers can be very difficult. Man-made fibers do not hold on to much moisture at all, so the stained area is not holding on to much of the spill. Please be aware that soft furnishings have little strength when damp. Care should be taken and rubbing the material should be kept to a minimum.
