Makeup removal from carpet
Accidents do happen around the home. And makeup stains are one of the more common problems. These stains can look quite unpleasant. However makeup removal from carpet should not be a major problem if attended to in the correct manner.
Foundation, Lipstick, Eye-liner…
For the most part, makeup stains will be oil-based stains. Nail Polish will be addressed a bit later.
Being a concentrated, oil based stain, makeup will need something a little stronger than a simple detergent based cleaner. There is the possibility that a good quality carpet cleaning detergent may well remove smaller stains. However for larger stains, some form of petroleum based product may be necessary. Some products such as Mineral Turps, Dry-Cleaning Solvent or Methylated Spirit may be needed.
Nope……don’t use these recommendations on any furry animals
Makeup removal from carpet: take your time
There are some simple rules before you start. If using petroleum based products, always use in a well-ventilated area. Also always read the labels on anything that is being used. And take your time. Firstly, small spots should be reasonably easy to remove. Use a small amount of product (metho, dry cleaning solvent) on a colourfast cloth, don’t pour onto the carpet. Then gently wipe the spot a couple of times. Leave to dry completely. Then have another look and re-do if necessary. For larger stains, always work from the outside towards the center. And take your time, makeup removal from carpet is something that might take a little time to do properly.
Eye-liner looks unsightly on a carpet but should be quite easy to remove.
