Flooded Carpet
For over 25 years P.J’s Carpet Care has been attending to the flooded carpet and water damage restoration needs in Brisbane and surrounds. Depending on a few factors, your carpet could well be repairable with the proper attention.
First Things First
Firstly, prompt attention to flooded carpet is really important. Flooded carpet is often quite salvageable if attended to in a reasonable amount of time. How is the water getting in? A burst pipe? Blocked drain? Turn the water off or unblock the drain. There are of course other ways for water to enter. But minimising the damage should be the first step.
Also furniture removal from flooded carpet is very important. This will not only protect the carpet but also the furniture. Be careful that wooden furniture doesn’t stain any carpeted areas. Tannin staining from wooden furniture can be almost impossible to remove. If in doubt, cut plastic sheeting into squares and place under the furniture.
Flooded Carpet Restoration
After stopping the water and removing furniture, water extraction of the flooded carpet would normally be the next step. Your technician may remove the underlay. Re-using this underlay is often possible. Finally the installation of carpet driers will help with drying. Further, your technician will apply deoderising and anti-microbial treatments.
Staining
We have considerable experience in removing stains from water damaged carpet. Tannin stains from furniture may be difficult to remove. However stains such as rust are often easy to fix. Water stains (often from sisal backing) are not as much of a problem these days. Many carpets are self-backed or ‘action’ backed from man made fibres.
Flooded Carpet Tiles
Carpet tiles are common in commercial areas such as offices. Depending on the amount of water, these tiles will dry quite quickly.
Sub-Floor
Concrete or Wood? Concrete will take longer to dry than wooden floors. With prompt attention a concrete floor will dry within a day or two. Repairs and relaying of carpet need to wait until the concrete floor is dry.
