Church Carpet Cleaning
Over the years we have cleaned many different types of businesses, commercial premises and homes. Including in the work we have carried out is Church carpet cleaning. Church carpets are interesting in that there are normally not too many stains on the carpet at all. Also compared to other premises they are often quite clean. There will always be some soiling but Church carpets are not normally in a bad condition.
The carpet in churches do need to be professionally cleaned regularly just like any carpet. Of course it is the soil in a carpet that wears it prematurely. Removing this soil will prolong the life of the carpet and keep it looking fresh and good. I recommend yearly cleaning for these types of premises. Churches will often have considerable foot traffic. Also this traffic will be coming straight in from outside bringing soiling in. Removing this soil is important for the life of the carpet and to keep it looking good.
This carpet above cleaned up really nicely. Firstly, the carpet was in good condition. Also this was the second time I had cleaned it. The carpet has been cleaned each year since being laid.
Church carpet cleaning and wax
Churches often do have one type of stain that doesn’t occur on many other carpets. Candle Wax. Candle Wax also occurs in the home but wax is on many Church carpets.
I have seen many people make a horrible mistake with trying to remove wax from their carpet. The common fix for this was an iron and some brown paper. The problem with this is that some carpet fibers such as Polypropylene have a very very low melting temperature of 160 °C. Nylon carpet fibers are not much better at 220 °C . So this is the big problem with using an iron on your carpet. From the wiki.
Ironing is the use of a heated tool (an iron) to remove wrinkles from fabric. The heating is commonly done to a temperature of 180–220 °Celsius, depending on the fabric. Ironing works by loosening the bonds between the long-chain polymer molecules in the fibers of the material.
The carpet fiber may well melt very quickly. Polypropylene melts incredibly easy. I have seen numerous iron scorch marks where the iron has simply been knocked off the ironing board melting the fiber immediately. So my suggestion is to not use an iron on your carpet under any circumstance. Due to the low melting temperature there is often no second chance.
Removing Candle Wax
When I need to remove wax, I use a wet solvent. After applying a small amount I gently scrape the wax off with a blunt knife or something similar. Taking ones time and being gentle should ensure a good result. Coloured candle wax can be a real problem to remove. This colour is a dye. And often the dye stain will remain re-colouring the fiber. This stain could well be permanent. For all your general spot and stain removal, our Stain Removal page is here.
