Carpet Cleaning Tips and Tricks (part 2)
We will endevour to provide more carpet cleaning tips and tricks as they arise over time. Part one of Carpet Cleaning Tips and Tricks in the News area of our website also explains some issues encountered with the maintenance and care of carpet. These included Carpet UV damage, Makeup removal, Vacuuming and dents in carpet.
Doormats
Doormats really are an important first step in the care and maintenance of your carpet. Stopping the soiling outside needs to be a priority. Covering the carpet inside with mates means the soiling is still coming in. It’s much better to stop the soling outside. We use coir doormats in our house. They are durable and work quite well at removing soling from shoes. Remember, it’s the soling that will damage the carpet fiber and cause your carpet to look shabby.
Notice something missing?
This doorway above, though rarely used, still needs a doormat. Any time it is used, soiling will invariably enter onto the carpet.
Mats on Carpet
Due to the possibility of staining occurring, I am not a fan of having carpet or rugs on other carpet. This image following is what can happen with a small mat or rug sitting on a carpet and the dye staining the carpet below. Even clean water could possibly cause this staining to occur if it is spilled on the top mat or rug. And because the staining is under the rug, it may well be missed completely until the rug is lifted. These dye stains are not able to be removed normally without considerable work.
Carpet cleaning tip for Stairs and Mats
Another one of our carpet cleaning tips is to have a piece of carpet or soft mat at the bottom of stairs.
Stopping the soling from getting on the stairs is important. Stairs tend to wear quicker than other carpeted areas. Therefore anything that can be done to minimise the wear and tear is very important. Having a small mat at the bottom of the stairs on the tiles will help with the tracking of soil and dust onto the carpet from tiles.
